So now some who were anti-C 51 are thinking, "Wait a minute. Maybe we do need to give more 'power to security and intelligence agencies.'"

But it's understandable. They're "Hacktivists", not "Thinktavists".
Or it's just a bit of theatre that your government is putting on to convince you that liberties and freedoms are dangerous things that need to be eliminated in the name of security.
Oh, and C-51 would not have prevented a denial-of-service attack.
Yeah...uh...no.
In a way your graphic is spot on.
The folks who say you can trust them with all of your personal and private information can't even stop a bunch of anarchists from taking down their websites.

Correct me if I'm nworng, but isn't a DDOS attack pretty much on par with egging the VIP bus as it drives by?

You're . No idea WTF that is but it sure sounds like you!
My agency got hit with a DDoS a couple years back and now we implemented a successful strategy for preventing it from happening again. I can't get into detail but running a DDoS on us now is like playing Whack-a-mole. The best the jerks can do with us now is cause 80ms to 100ms interruptions.
Or instead, let the gov't techies do what they get paid to do.
If it happens again, fire the techies and appoint them to the Senate where uselessness is a job qualification.

All hail Nworng, our new dark overlord, and Zpiprefsih, his prophet, may pacee/wra be upon hmi!
Or setting a fax machine to dial EI's number over and over and screw up the ONE fax machine that serves all Canada...

You are nworng. It wasn't a DDOS, it was a zero day vulnerability attack. We were working overtime last night to patch our systems to prevent the same attack being used against us by others.
Anonymous isn't wrong, Bill C-51 will affect every Canadian adversely. They are wrong however in thinking that this in any way will change Canadians minds as to C-51. Canadians already don't care about their rights, and having the sloppy media report that they 'attacked' government websites isn't going to change that or improve Canadians perception of Anonymous.

Yes. It's not even about Canadians not caring, an attack like this (what else do you call) just entrenches positions and drives people into the Harperite camp. If anonymous wants to be involved, just spread the message about the dangers of C51 on various platforms.
