Seems that the supreme court of Canada is being controlled by libs& dippers. Every law that Harper et al have passed to strengthen/lengthen sentences is being tossed. I would be all for a law whereby Anyone not born in Canada who is convicted of any crime involving any weapon, regardless of the outcome, is immediately booted back to the country they came from regardless of the 'persecution or execution' which they undoubtedly would cry about. Tough shit. You should have thought about that before you decided that you wanted to be a bad ass!

Or make obtaining citizenship a longer and more difficult process. In New Zealand it takes about 8 years. So while someone is a PR seeking citizenship, serious crimes result in automatic deportation without any chance of reapplying....after a prison sentence has been served.

Harper appointed 7 of the 9 Supreme Court justices. Another dumbass conspiarcy theory bites the dust.

Harper was also told by advisers that those bills would not survive a constitutional challenge, but he passed them anyway. And then cries that the Courts aren't elected, and shouldn't be making laws.

Of course. It works on Yogi at al. Harper wants the court to reject his legislation, so he can play the victimized conservative looking out for the little guy who's consistently hamstrung by the liberal elite. Harper isn't governing here, he's politicking.

Good chance these guys came in young with their parents and became citizens when the parents did. While I agree with the NZ approach, probably wouldn't help in this case.

How would tougher sentences help in this case? Think these guys do a calculus where 5 years, go for it, 10 years, no way? Tougher sentences don't reduce crime, despite the dreams of some. What they do is cost a lot of money, which is why the US is backing off - they can't afford the prisons. So if you pass tougher sentences, at least also pass the funding for the prisons.
