The United States isn't giving Canada a lot of love today even though the prime minister is in Washington to announce a landmark border security deal with his presidential counterpart.

In the CTV News Channel interview, Plotkin decried his country's apathy toward its northern neighbour.

"This is the same country that seems to be continually snubbed by this president," he said.

"I must wonder why no state dinner for this prime minister? They had a state dinner for Mexico ? nothing for Canada. I think you're treated quite shabbily by this administration," he said.

Where are all those "Canadians for Obama" types now?

I want to hear their opinions on how things are working out for us.

And was it any different under Bush, when he ignored us but praised Britain for their help after 9/11? We're always taken for granted by the US, and both Repubs and Dems will do their utmost to turn things to their advantage rather than ours. Can't blame them for that, just blame us under all regimes sucking up to the US instead of showing some spine. Well, at least Chretien didn't get us involved in that Iraq fiasco - if Harper had been in power then we would have been bringing home the body bags from there too, and for what?

I don't really think this is an issue you can do a little partisan dance about. Enough blame to go around for both Libs and Cons.

What the hell does this have to do with Bush, Iraq, Libs/Cons?

Want to come back on topic?

You're making the claim that this is somehow different under Obama. I'm pointing out that we've always been ignored by the US, doesn't matter who's pres. Canadians for Obama - I'm one, since the alternative would have been disastrous - is about a lot more than whether he invites Harper for dinner or not.

I think that some of those pro-Obama types may have changed their mind about him based on the evidence they've seen. Those who were antiObana from the start had no real evidence except what the idiots, crazies and extremists dreamed up. Which one that group do you fall into I wonder?

How do we know that Harper wanted pomp and circumstance and Obama turned him down. I have a feeling that both leaders wanted to keep this low key, since they probably face considerable opposition to it at home. And who the fuck is Mark Plotkin and what's his agenda?

Difference is past presidents didn't have a sizable subset of Canadians tripping over themselves to display their admiration of him. Given the Obama administrations snubs of this country as of late (taxing Canadians to pay for Colombian trade deals, Buy American, Keystone XL, etc.), the "Canadians for Obama" group now look like a bunch of tools.

    No offence.

If the US in general ignores Canada, how the hell would have electing McCain been "disastrous"? He'd give us negative attention?

Neither. I simply never bought into this nonsense.

The man was hyped up like he was the second coming of Jesus Christ. Even by some in this country, through I cannot fathom why.

Because they were entering a shit storm caused by the previous prez, and Americans, like Canadians, can't handle the truth and thought there would be an easy way out.

Maybe it was out of concern for Harper's fat ass that they didn't put the state feedbag on for him?

I think John McCain would have been better for Canada in certain ways. Would Keystone XL have been held up under McCain? McCain was known to be against protectionism, would Canada have been nailed with Buy American provisions under his administration?

It will do you well to actually think about and consider alternate possibilities rather than gut reactions like... MCCAIN!!! HISS!!! PALIN!!! BARF!!!.

Well I hope they realized their mistake.
