Well there is a change in the law that is needed. If conditions are so bad you can't stay long enough to apply to immigrate properly then if you go back you lose your status here. Make them sign on the dotted line to that when they wash up on the BC shores next time. Can't have it both ways, "Too dangerous yet I'll go back"

    This is nothing new.

Remember the 'Lebanese-Canadians'. The 7000 or so who moved back to Beruit to live and own businesses but then slagged Canada off for not evacuating them quickly enough?

That cost us $85,000,000 in 2006.

Plastic Canadians know their Charter rights very well.

Yup yup. People from our office where sent there to help with consular services and evac them. There were an amazing number of "Canadians" who wanted evac but refused to be evacuated to Canada. Some even commented to DFAIT officers, "Why would I want to go to Canada?" Oh that will be apparent when they get old and need the health care.

They weren't refugees, but Canadians of convenience.

But I posted in another thread being told people who came here as refugees going back to the old country every year for a nice holiday when it gets too cold here.

Then there's an article in the G&M by an Iranian woman about some Iranian guy who went back home, got arrested and is now winging we're not helping him enough. If a person from North Korea went back for a visit and got arrested, would s/he really deserve sympathy? Same with everybody else who fled a repressive regime but then just has to go back - that Somali guy comes to mind, who's now suing the govt.

It's really getting embarrassing about how much Canada allows itself to be played as a sucker, and some Canadians seem to actually approve or even be proud of it. As somebody else posted - there's a reason why the name of our country ends with 'duh'.
