How much you want to bet China is paying them to raise a stink?

Yeah, why else would anyone want to defend themselves from such accusations?

The Chinese are well known for this stuff worldwide.

Canadians need to stop worrying about being politically correct and start dealing with issues like this.

We are issuing citizen so easily that anybody can get a blue passport. Some of our 'new Canadians' don't put Canada first on the loyalty ladder.

No more hyphenated Canadians. Become a citizen and renounce any other citizenship.

I am Canadian now (albeit with a Limey accent and attitude). My UK passport expired 5 years ago and I travelled to England the last two times on my Canadian passport.

Twice in 15 years I went over there. I prefer Mexico on vacations. The beaches are better than the English ones.

    What EyeBrock said.

But this being Canada, Fadden will resign and Herpes will offer an apology and a compensation package.

I don't believe anyone should be treated as +/- anyone else.

The comment should be investigated if further such comments continue to come out without much explanations.

No one is being treated +/- anyone else. China is known to do this and there have been lots of cases in the US - you think we are exempt. Many Chinese seem to see themselves as Chinese first, no matter where they live, and hold some pretty strong attitudes of "racial" superiority. So I'm glad CSIS is keeping on top of this, although I don't understand why he made the comments he did and then backed off.

He also said some middle eastern countries were involved. I thought first of Israel, certainly that's been the case in the US, but I guess the Israelis would be more interested in military secrets than commercial ones, and we don't really have any, do we?

I don't feel we are exempt or that the comments are false.

It's entirely possible and likely that there is influence.

Apparently it was never enough to warrant actual concern.

No, it doesn't sound all that serious. Maybe it was his way of firing a warning shot. Or some other political game. I just hope the reparations we're going to have to pay aren't too high.

So they give up their citizenship and all of a sudden they can't be spies? I doubt that.

The CSIS guy makes an inflammatory comment about white college students seduced into service by foreign governments and now everyone can't stop talking about immigrants?

Did he even hint that foreign governments might focus on immigrants?

    Why does this conversation exist?

And why is anyone taking part in it?

    <continue rant>

And why would China recruit college students of Chinese decent? It would be to obvious and a waste because they could just import their own people for cheaper. They don't want Chinese plants in our government they want hooks in white folk.

Because even now no one is asking if Harper, or the new Finance Minister took a trip to China in his youth, because we're to distracted by our landed Chinese immigrants.

Stop making me embarrassed to be human!

    WIN.

Aaand....some ideas to help this along:

    1) Only the two official languages can we written/spoken/used. I'm tired of seeing ethnic shops using only their language on signs, some with no english whatsoever. I find this insulting.

    2) People wanting to immigrate here MUST learn english, or go back to wherever they came from. Assimilation is key. You want to come here? Fine. Speak the official languages, or else.

    3) No more of this "Happy Holidays" bullshit at Christmas. The political correctness of ths makes me want to puke. I always say Merry Christmas to people, and don't intend to stop. If some are offended, TOO BAD.I'm tired of this crap. These immies need to be more tolerant of us, not vice versa.

    4) Brock for PM.

Oddly enough I find racism insulting. Personally I have no problem with ethnic shops nor any problem with signs just in their native language since I have yet to see any. They all include english although I will accept the possibility they exist.

Have you ever considered that in addition to english and french (which many people here will happily discount as an official language) we should recognize native languages as well? Seems fair since they were here first.

Just english? It took you only a single sentence to erase your belief they should learn either official language?

Guess what sunshine. I'm a full blooded Canadian with roots stretching back to the original settlers and I not only support "happy holidays" I might even start demanding it. Who the fuck are you people to tell me what I can and cannot say?

How about I tell you what to say on any other day? On Darwins birthday (12 feb) I demand you say "happy evolution day". I'll think up a shitload more things I'll demand you to say later.

While you are crying about "immies" you had better address while above all countries in the world Canadians expect and demand that all Canadian immigrants to another country continue to acknowledge their Canadianess and Canadian heritage. This is especially true of those going to Hollywood. As a nation we are greatly disappointed whenever our cherished famous people decides to get US citizenship and are offended when they decide to adopt the nation they have immigrated too as their own.

We expect everybody else to do what we vilify when it happens to us.
