OTTAWA - Ardent monarchists close to Stephen Harper are helping to pick the next Governor General, who is likely to be more of a Buckingham booster than recent representatives of the Queen, insiders say.

I'm glad to see this. I've always look at the Canadian System with the Monarchy as a major part of the Canadian Identity even though it isn't much involved in day to day affairs at all.

THere are many times I wished we had the same system.

Good for us. Constitutional monarchy is highly under-rated. It's far preferable and more durable than the alternative of false republicanism, especially when said republic becomes ridden with demogogues who profit from turning citizens against each other.

Sigh. Disappointing. I guess I need to be a British descendant to appreciate the monarchy or something.

I have something against this. The Queen should not have anything to do about our GG. She only has to appoint him/her. We are sovereign.

How strange that we'd change the protocol of choosing the representative of the Queen in Canada from, Immigrant, Woman, CBC hack, to something more Monarchist.

For the most part though Michele Jean did carry herself with some semblance of grace and decorum, which, was completely lacking in the previous appointee who held the same positition.

I respect the Queen for her person. But we choose our GG. That's it. Aren't you Canadians ???
