Deer are wild animals and are not to be kept as pets, according to B.C. Environment Ministry wildlife biologist Kim Brunt.

"I would suspect that it would have a reasonable chance of surviving if slowly re-introduced back into the wild," said Brunt.

"The first step would be not allowing it into the house or treating it so much like a domestic animal," she said.

It's been 5 years being completely conditioned for being around humans... either let her keep it or put it in a zoo, because tossing her back into the wild will just make her into an easy kill for some random hunter.

There are always exceptions to every rule and considering how things unfolded, it seems logical to leave her be. If animal control was contacted 5 years ago, or she was just found a few days ago, I'd agree with putting it back into the wild, but things didn't happen that way and simply painting a general solution with a brush like this isn't going to solve anything.

A pet deer!!! In the house!!!! That is awesome! :D

Why do some ppl always have to piss on other people's parade? "wild animals are not to be kept in the home" is the only excuse the authorities give. Says who? Come up with a better reason or fuck off.

The only thing that would be more irresponsible then she was for keeping the deer for five years, would be putting it back into the wild now.
IF they can't prove the deer's health is in danger and if it's well looked after then let things be. It's not like she lives in an urban area.
