Combat on the cutting edge

Canadas soldiers of tomorrow could have assault rifles that are lighter, share pictures and come with a central power source to charge high-tech sighting, magnification, laser aimers and grenade launchers.

Sounds like some pretty advanced stuff.

"Theres always a concern because the infantryman has so much stuff to carry,"

ROTFL Ya the infantry has to carry alot, I call bullshit. Lets see in my section we had the same kit at the RCR and we had 50lbs of explosives to carry, a breaching kit which weighed pretty much the same and our anti IED equipment.

Making it easier for soldiers to kill people doesnt sit well with Steven Staples of the Rideau Institute, a left-leaning Ottawa think-tank.

"Any notion of the Canadian Forces, it seems to me, of excelling in excellence in peacekeeping is being replaced in an excellence in being able to kill people. This is really worrisome."

Wow, I guess the military should be studying better ways to tickle the enemy instead of kill the enemy.

Isn't killing people who would destroy peace, part of peace keeping?

if a situation worsens to the point our soldiers are sent in I certainly hope they have as Staples complains, "an excellence in being able to kill people." This notion of peacekeeping that some have is odd... you can't always disarm radicals with food shipments and sing-alongs

The actical display onto the retina would be sweet, wonder what else you'd be able to see with that.

As for the vests, if they go for something like that I would hope they do what the American's did and go with one vest wih Molle/Pal webbing for customizable layout.

I saw somethign about exoskeleton, personally I think they should give the Infanteers, Engineers, and Armoured guys suits like what Master-chief has, thing supports it's own weight, reacts to the soldiers nerve impulses, make it impervious to small arms fire, mine resistant, can carry a shitload of ammo, etc.

    Sounds pretty good.

As for Stephen Staples, he's just another peacenik who always complains about the CF. If he had his way, if would be nothing more than a glorified police force (without a SWAT team).
