VANCOUVER - A Vancouver man caught shipping 11 kilograms of cocaine to Montreal has received 40 months in prison - a lesser sentence because he was an aboriginal offender.

the drug dealer "only recently displayed interest in that part of his culture."
    Thats racism right there.

WTF is wrong with this judge, he basicly saying its not the poor guys fault he didnt know he was native.

Section 718.2 of the Criminal Code requires that in sentencing, "all available sanctions other than imprisonment that are reasonable in the circumstances should be considered for all offenders, with particular attention to the circumstances of aboriginal offenders."
That is offside and someone should change that law, there is no reason the punishment should be harder for first nations. You should do hard time no matter who or what you are when you traffic 11Kg of cocaine.

I think you kinda missed the point...

The law was written that way so judges could give First Nations sentences not ones.

It is still a racist law.

I am so sick and tired of these weak ass judges.
It's time these judges were made accountable for their decisions.

To me, to sit there and say "oh he's a Native, of course he's going to lean towards criminal activity" is the biggest and most racist act of all. What, native people can't be expected to lead normal active lives without committing crimes? How do natives ever expect to be treated equally when they accept horse s*#$ like this because it conveniently benefits them for the time being?

I was going to try and ignore this article and not make cheap shots BUT.....
The man is a criminal a scummy no good drug dealing murdering criminal prepared to live off others misery. He probably sold the drugs to Natives and didnt care one little bit. I can only hope that someone in the judges family sources drugs from this mans criminal links then just maybe he will understand what its like to live in the real world and not his lovely coddled.... pfft I give up

I agree, this douch should do as much time as anyone else, claiming FN status at the '11th hour' so to speak is like a gunner throwing his hands up to advancing troops because his gun has just run out of ammo...skewer the bastard
