Rows of Liberal benches remained vacant in a series of votes on controversial immigration reforms that are part of a larger budget-implementation bill.

Tough question.. Raw, naked political ambition or the right thing.
Do they keep throwing shit while their safe in their cage or do they grow up and find a backbone.

Now isn't that hippocritical...With one breath Dion says we need to be rid of this government and had the libs been allowed to vote they could have caused a non confidence vote to bring about an oppurtunity to do so.
So instead they skip it....for what reason...hmmmm. Seems only two valid reasons exist.

    1) They don't believe they could win at this time and aren't ready to try their luck and give the Conservatives a shot at a majority.
    2) They secretly like the legislation and don't have the balls to back it. So they let it go through and appear to their base to have shunned it.

Either way they are gutless, on this vote. Take a stand and make it count, not voting shows you are spineless. 8)

Given the chance with a free vote I think alot of Liberal backbenchers would have supported this legislation. Dion may have known that. Or they may have voted against it and suffered on election day for voting against it. In any case it has the appearance of being spineless. I'd rather be wrong and vote for something then to appear to be non decisive.
Of course the public does have a short memory, and come election time they will forget the Libs didn't vote on this. And our great Lib biased media will not remind them at all.

Once again Mr. Dion pulls his disappearing act, proving that he's got no cohones and still isn't relevant in Canadian Politics.

"The Liberals have called the bill an affront to Canadian values and suggest they will overturn the legislation if they win the next election."

They'll complain more about it later. When they beg for votes and call the bill American ...Liberal election words used to describe conservatives.

Its funny I'm always hearing Liberals on Question Period ranting and raving on how the Conservatives have to go but never show up to do it when they have the chance. They suspect voters are stupid, well the majority of liberal voters anyways.

This is actually starting to become hilarious. Listen to Dion and company slam the conservatives as being the most despicable, evil party ever to grace the Canadian political scene, only to be strangely absent when it comes time to vote and force an election!

By the way Stephane, the clock is ticking!

I think a nice fascist government like the one we have now is good for Canada. I am hoping that they get their majority so they can really cram it to us - it'll be great. Nothing like a bunch of alberta red neck myopic inbreds running the show, and they can continue to take all their cues from Bushco to perfect their act.

It's only a fascist government if greedy and cowardly bastards like Dion and Iggy put their political careers before what they say. If the Harper government is all so bad and evil, then it's the oppositions duty to take them down.

It's a pitiful day when jack layton has more of a backbone than the Liberals.
