Benoit Pelletier says that proposed federal legislation to create a process for electing senators - without first winning the approval of at least seven provinces - is unconstitutional.

I totally agree, this will affect the country it should have the approval of at least seven provinces. For one thing the actual government there is in a minority. This needs a large approval.
Im for the election of the senate, For once Uwish if you could see it Quebec is also thinking of the rest of the country.
Must be a knee jerk reaction when you hear the word Quebec that nothing positive will come out of your mouth. Ok forget the knee thing.

Lets bring on the referendum on it then. I think most informed people would agree we need to reform the senate.

Why are some people so against an elected senate? Are they afraid they are going to lose their power?

Its not the Senate being elected the issue here , its the approval of it. Think of it. This will be decided by a few in government that doesn't represent the nation but if fraction. This is a confederation of provinces then the consent of it should be as so. I am sure Quebec is all for it, just lets do it right.

Senate reform is likely a constitutional matter - if we want to respect the rule of law and the democratic process, this should be held to the amending formula (which, last time, ruled against Senate reform)

that is why you like communism. UNELECTED UNLIMITED term upper chamber. Very democratic but then that doesn't surprise me coming from a liberal who doesn't believe in democracy, freedom or the rights of the individual.

We kicked their collective butts 200+ years ago. Told them they could stay only if they kept their mouths shut and didn't cause any problems. Quebec is ours and they can leave. XD XD XD
