I can maybe hook you up,When I flew to camp last tour
Santa got on the plane in Yellowknife,so when we hit Rankin inlet the whole population was at the airport and I had a 6 hour wait so I saw a lot of beautifull sealskin jackets as it was about -50 with windchill.I asked lots of questions on obtaining one. Some would probably fetch 6 or 10 grand in the states,if the export market go's for a shit then I can probably get you one for about $3500.00.
Most furs harvested here have to go through a govt. agent and get stamped,You want a homemade, one of my buds up here has a shop that sells furs and I have been trying to convince him to go online to sell as this stuff is beautifull. He allways declines,if you want I'll e-mail him tonight and see if he can fill the order for a sealskin parka. He has connections but remember nothing moves fast in the arctic, give me a day or so.
I'm positive I can hook you up with a jacket that you can sleep in or fall into the hudsons bay with and survive. If your serious let me know.

I wish I had a better memory, but I don't. I was listening to a local talk show awhile back where they were interviewing a Haida chief who wanted a west coast seal hunt. According to this guy there were commercial possibilities that went beyond furs. One of them was seal oil. There's something in the seal oil that can be sold as a health product. I forget what it is, but according to Haida guy there's money to be made there.

I wonder if there's a portion of environmentalists that actually prefer the use of animal hides and fur for clothing, etc - seems like an awfully convenient renewable and natural resource to simply dismiss as "barbaric" - even moreso considering the alterative is most often some form of synthetic material.

And mother nature rules where warmth is concerned, you cant beat fur.
Hunting seals is just what they do here, because they allways have, even the kids. Thats a girl.in case anyones wondering. So who wants seal?

WTF? You folks are freaking out over ONE cat in microwave and ONE beaten puppy, but cheer on the brutal murder of over 250,000 pup seals a year? Typical hypocrites and hicks!

there's a difference between the brutlization of a house pet and the legal hunt of an animal
