heirs?? The Templars, as well as being knights, were also a monastic order who took vows of 'celibacy'. All members surrendered their property to the Order and therefore the Church...one of the reasons the Church later imposed celibacy on its clergy, where once upon a time it was a matter of personal choice. Couldn't have a wealthy bishop or cardinal leaving all that land and gold to children when the poor Church of Rome needed golden chalices for the Pope's residence.
It is interesting, that once upon a time the Templars, once chastised the Church for its acquisition of wealth. But they became wealthy, went into banking and ended up being owed money by the wrong people and were set upon by the powers that be. Funny, the Jews had that happen to them every generation or two.
Well, you certainly won't be called upon by the Appellant in this matter if you're going to introduce a rational approach...
