So, I guess we can now end the myth that the government can be the custodians of the environment. :(

Govt's can be, but the right govt needs to be voted in - ie the people need to be guardians of the environment and vote for representatives who will make it happen. And while we talk a good game, we also all want our mod cons and use all that oil that this environmental damage was in aid of. It's a tradeoff, getting it right is difficult. The NDP is far more open to preserving the environment, but in BC hear the howling when they do so, and the steady pushback once the opposition gets in. In BC we're busy whittling away at the Agricultural land reserve, a legacy of the Barrett years. We only have 3% arable land in the province to begin with, but we sure love to build houses and factories on it.

Didn't read anything indicating any meaningful harm being done.

Also the title is clearly misleading 'ravaged beyond repair' would imply that nothing can ever be done and that the damage is permanent.

But why let facts get in the way of some snide comment?

$1:
Scientists are trying to remediate the lines that help wolves get deep into the forest of Alberta's foothills and are partly responsible for vanishing caribou herds, but there are so many that they're focusing on which ones would do the most good. (HO, Foothills Research Institute/Canadian Press)

Guess you need to brush up on your reading skills.

Still.
