I wonder if it's from the States like 90% of illegal firearms in Canada.

sandorski sandorski:
We don't need guns.

I wouldn't go that far. Hunting rifles have their uses, but I do agree that civilians having military style assault weapons is ridiculous. The only people with a need for such weapons are the military and police.

I'm ok with Hunters having Rifles. That and Target/Sport Shooters, beyond that there's no reason for a Civilian to own a Gun.

Who decides who can hunt? Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like you're saying not everyone should have that right.

I don't own a farm or hunt regularly, but occasionally (once every couple of years) I go out to a friend's acreage near St. Paul AB and shoot a little bit. Does this mean I shouldn't be allowed to own a rifle?

Yogi,

Savannah is in Georgia...they are all fucked down there

Us Canadians...would just go kill the dude without any email or notification. thats just how we roll.

That reminds me of a girl from Georgia who at 17 got her license and was finally allowed to drive.

Her dad's answer to the possibility of a breakdown, buy a gun and a cellphone and keep both in the glovebox. She was told and I quote, "Call the police. If anyone else shows up, pull out the gun and shoot them."

She told me that so matter of factly that it scared me and now don't even consider stopping to help anyone at the side of the highway when I travel across the border.

It is a tool of Violence. If everyone needs one, you got major problems. The Old American West is gone, why so eager to bring it back?

So can anything else, from knives to cars to pillows. All can be tools of violence. Guns can also be a tool for survival, protection, and hunting.

Plus, the Old West is a stereotype brought forth by movies more than anything else. Most of the crime within the West was due to public intoxication over anything else.

The "Wild West" was a product of the US Civil War. The crime was perpetrated, largely, by veterans made anti-social by the horrors of war. Unable to re-adjust to peace, they made their way by the gun. Once the Civil War vets died off, the crime rates dropped.

I think I would want something with a little bit more stopping power to it than a .308 for a griz, a .458 Winchester magnum comes to mind.....
