Zipperfish Zipperfish: BartSimpson BartSimpson: Naw, we'll just elect her President in two years and make the lefties choke on her. At least it won't be boring. You can say a lot of things about Palin, but she ain't dull, that's for sure. You know you would tap her!

BartSimpson BartSimpson: I just don't get all the animus and hatred being aimed at this woman. I can only think that without Bush and Rove to hate anymore some of you people need to focus your innate viciousness at someone and Palin is a convenient target. Yeah, like there isn't any hatred and animus being sent towards Obama...or Clinton (either one)...or any other Democrat with some measure of power these days. I don't like it one bit, but I see it as the Dems fighting fire with fire when it comes to Palin, Bush, et al. It's a sad reflection on the state of politics in North America these days...hatred gets you farther than respect. Attack ads and comparative advertising are one of the key facets of this culture of hatred and fear.

Someone pointed out on another thread that this climate of hate was initially started by the Dems. So I guess this, $1: but I see it as the Dems fighting fire with fire when it comes to Palin, Bush, et al.
is a little backwards.

Well she's dumber than a bag of hammers, frankly a bag of hammers at least have some value, Palin and the tea party don't.

is a little backwards. I don't see it that way, as I don't remember anywhere near this level of vitriol and hatred ever levelled at Reagan or Bush Sr (maybe it happened, but I don't remember it being anywhere as bad as it is now), but Clinton had it heaped on him, followed by Dubya, and now Palin and Obama. My point is that it's gotten worse and worse in the past 20 years. Even Dan Quayle getting mocked for 'potatoe' or his comments on single mothers are nothing compared to the outright hatred that some people spew about Clinton, Dubya, Obama and Palin.

It started around Reagans second term. As far as level of hatred to the Dems, where were you from 2000-2008? Bush Jr was savaged by the left constantly. But I will agree that it is worse now than 20-30 years ago, and probably won't be getting better anytime soon.

Politics is no longer about ideas but confrontation. We see it here in Canada when we get one party saying they will not support anothers budget before seeing what's in the budget. No politician even knows the word compromise anymore.

It's a sad reflection on the state of politics in North America these days...hatred gets you farther than respect. Attack ads and comparative advertising are one of the key facets of this culture of hatred and fear. I know that politicians of all stripes are not to be trusted, but Palin's in a completely separate category of kook all on her own. The endless pathological lies she keeps telling should be indicative enough that her personality is simply not trustworthy or mentally stable enough to ever allow her power on the Presidential level. She's enough of a crackpot that I'd be genuinely worried that she'd deliberately start dropping nuclear warheads against the Muslims, even in the absence of any sort of Sept 11 type of provocation, just because 'God told her to do it'. I've never seen a possible candidate so recklessly manifest such a truly dangerous combination of personal stupidity, a true belief in her own ridiculous propaganda, and her own religious mania into a single individual. I've never been spooked by anyone in American politics as I have been by Palin and by the Tea Party zombies that slavishly worship her. If she ever gets elected into the White House they should push the old nuclear deathclock to 30 seconds to midnight because Palin by herself could make the entire world situation worse than the entirety of the Cold War ever was.

I never said it was party specific, I said it is something that both sides of the coin engage in (and I don't care for).

Until Palin was tapped to be McCain's running mate no one outside of Alaska cared about her. And inside Alaska the woman had the highest approval rating of any sitting Governor in the entire USA: 84%. She didn't get an 84% approval rating by being what Thanos mistakenly believes her to be. And the reason the woman was so immediately hated by the left is precisely because she did have such a high approval rating and they were afraid that meant trouble for Obama. And she may well still mean trouble for Obama. In any case, I still have not seen so much unfounded pure hatred directed at someone outside of the time I sat in on a ne-Nazi meeting and got to hear unlimited hatred and ignorance tossed out at...well, everyone.
This climate of confrontation, as 2Cdo so aptly noted, is going to escalate to the point where it will become inevitable that we'll see violence.
When that happens then those of you who sowed the wind should best be prepared to reap the whirlwind.

Politicians need not be geniuses...just smart enough to listen to good handlers and publicists. Remember, for the most part they are merely a face/talking head representing their backers....the true power that lurks behind the scenes.
