OnTheIce OnTheIce:
We impose our morality on people every day. Our laws are based on morality.

Why can't the homeless guy in Toronto masturbate on the street corner? He's not hurting anyone and it's far less harmless than alcohol, cigarettes or pot. That's just one small example of things we deem illegal due to morality yet is harmless to the 'user' and those around him.

You made reference to working in a restaurant and made a comment about customers wearing hats:

But what about 'freedom'? So what if the guy wants to wear his hat while he eats? Who are you to impose your morals on those eating in a restaurant? All silly questions, right?

We have a set of rules based on morals and you and others want to move those goal posts on this one issue because you want to feel better, more secure and more "free" about your drug use.

Translation: OTL doesnt klike it so it remain illegal for everyone.

Find me anything that shows even a mention of 50% reduction besides your own personal opinion.

My own personal opinion is that 50% is a very conservative number. The demonstration is the illegal tobacco market that you like to bring up.

$1:
In Canada, between 63 and 79 per cent of the price of a package of cigarettes is tax.

$1:
Experts estimate that contraband accounts for 11 percent of all cigarette sales

With taxation levels in excess of 100%, consumers still mostly choose the regulated market.

Curtman Curtman:
If it takes even half the market away from organized crime, AND drives the profit down for the remainder, everyone wins.

It will do a lot more than half. Look at the picture with booze or cigs - the illegal stuff is a small portion of the whole. But half is better than none. Don't understand why people argue for none.

A 50% reduction isn't realistic. We all know that.

You challenged Curtman, he gave a good answer so here's your challgenge: what have you got to back up your opinion here?

So all the people on this forum who like a drink - immoral? Why? Lemmy et al who like a toke - immoral? Why?

From that standpoint it is about freedom. We don't prevent people from masturbating in their own homes. We do prevent them from drinking on the street. Can we legalize pot if they promise not to smoke it on the street, same as booze?

And how about we give the homeless guy a home so he can masturbate there? What kind of society is it that doesn't even allow a guy to rub one out everyonce in a while:

A lot of Catholics base their morals on the 10 commandments... but only 3 of them are illegal.
Speeding is illegal but I don't think that anybody finds it immoral.
Adultery is not illegal, but most people find it immoral.

Then there are of lot of things that some people find immoral and some don't... abortion, gay marriage and euthanasia being just a few.

EDIT: I forgot alcohol, gambling and drugs in that last group.

Laws are NOT based on morality... they are based on protecting society.

Because, as with most topics, you don't possess the requisite background knowledge needed to engage in an adult discussion. Here's a ball. Maybe you'd like to try bouncing it.

Lemmy, you repeatedly walk into posts, tell people they're wrong and walk away, nose in the air. Sometimes when you're called out, you just dissapear from the posts. Too smart too offer anything to back up your inflated opinions.

I've seen you do it on all topics. My first experience was when you walked into a post scoffing at some suggestions on how to weld a gas tank only to walk away, tail between your legs.

I'm fully capable of having an adult discussion. If I disagree with you, I'll tell you why. You're the 'adult' who's idea of 'adult discussion' is saying 'your wrong' and leaving the room without explanation or anything to back up your opinions.

Again, it's typical.

If pot was legal then this guy would have been able to get stoned legally and pilot a plane legally stoned which means that he wouldn't have been illegally stoned on illegal pot and illegally crashed a legal plane. Or something like that. I'm hungry and my head hurts. Anyone got any Doritos?
