SprCForr SprCForr:
DOS 5 rocked. I learned so much when trying to squeeze the last byte of RAM to game with.

Ha yes 640K. 8)

Serviced IBM360 and 370, DEC, Burroughs, Texas Instrument.

The first micro computer I serviced was a Casu Electronics with Motorola 8 bit processor, 64k ram, two 8" floppy drives. We then added a 5 Meg hard disk  Just purchased a new video card with 1 Gig ram. 8O

You guys are young...

My first computer was the PC Jr. with DOS 2.1 and 64 KB of memory, no hard drive.
Actually had a 16 color monitor though.
I bought this because, the place where I worked had large incentives for buying computers.
Learned how to program in Basic and Assembler on this.

Vista is to W7 as 2000 was to XP.

No.. Vista is to Windows 7 as Millennium Edition was to XP.

They're all crap though.

You probably need another computer to do assembly language these days... if MSoft or Adobe offered one it would come on 18 DVDs and require 640 Gigs RAM...
I wonder what Windows8 will be like. Unable to use anything at all if you're not connected to the Internet? 7 is bad enough if you just want to write a document, something pops up every 3 seconds needing updating...

The first real computers we used were the Commodore PET 4032s which replaced the key punches used the year before. In Grade 12 they upgraded to 64s. :?

I took a night school BASIC course on the PET. Bought a Vic20 and I remember spending $399 for 4KB of RAM so it had as much as the PET.
I just bought 4 Gigs of RAM for $40.... that's over 1,000,000 times as much for 1/10th the price.
