Sounds cool, too bad it looks like crap. They should have adopted the XM-8 instead...

As long as your target is no more than 100m away!

It seems the more high speed we make a weapon the uglier it gets!

Looks promising. I wonder when we will be able to see it in real action? Nothing is ever truly tested until it hits the battlefield.

Sweet. Looks like the weapon has quite a kick. Not sure how useful the weapon would be in close urban combat (i.e. Battle of Mogadishu), however out in the open space of Afghanistan this puppy would be invaluable.

As smart as the rifle may be, it ultimately needs smart orders from Washington in order for it to work right. :?

not if it were in the hands of private citizens. they make their own decisions, and they tend to be a sight more smarter than washington.

You ridicule people who counter your pro-gun arguments by saying that they want an RPG-7, but advocate that citizens should own something like this? Okay, whatever...

A semi-automatic version of this rifle with a 10-round clip would be legal in all 50 US states. The explosive ammunition would be illegal under existing Federal laws, but a non-explosive round would be legal.

At that rate it would be functionally identical to any other legal self-loading rifle and I see no problem with it being sold publicly the same as any other legal rifle.

Seems like it would be a bit expensive if you weren't going to be using explosive rounds with it. There are much easier and cheaper ways to reach out and touch someone.

actually, I was mostly just stating that the decisions of the private civilian are of higher integrity than the Obama administration, but you go ahead and put whatever spin on it that you like. You are good at doing that. Your also good at strawman tactics, too.

True. But it would be pretty awesome to bring one to the range. :D

"US deploys 'game-changer' weapon to Afghanistan

by Michael Mathes Michael Mathes – Wed Dec 1, 2:09 am ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) – It looks and acts like something best left in the hands of Sylvester Stallone's "Rambo," but this latest dream weapon is real -- and the US Army sees it becoming the Taliban's worst nightmare.

The Pentagon has rolled out prototypes of its first-ever programmable "smart" grenade launcher, a shoulder-fired weapon that uses microchipped ammunition to target and kill the enemy, even when the enemy is hidden behind walls or other cover.

AFP/Army Handout
After years of development, the XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System, about the size of a regular rifle, has now been deployed to US units on the battlefields of Afghanistan, where the Army expects it to be a "game-changer" in its counterinsurgency operations..."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101201/sc ... fghanistan

They've been talking about it for a while, but it's on the ground now.
