Well that kind of backfired eh? The spin of the story was that CBC is wasting our money, but you'd have to be so beyond the uber-right to NOT want hi-def HNIC that you'd be laughed at.
Lose the spin, just deliver the news? Like CBC seems to do far better than its detractors.

Then it can do it as a private broadcaster.

"Private broadcaster"...? This only means that 100% of funding comes from advertising. Unlike taxpayers, primary advertisers become very select in what they are willing to fund. Yes, CBC fans have to put up with some real dreck, but at least we can be somewhat assured the programming is based on someone's ideal of "Canada-ism" instead of entirely the bottom line.

The CBC is the channel I would take with me to a desert island. There's a little something for everyone on it.

I imagine even the Conservative philistines on this board can appreciate a bit of HNIC, or even the Simpsons.

The children's programming is amazing, and 100% Canadian. I don't see why my future children should watch American kids' shows where they'll learn to say 'zee' instead of 'zed'.

The news is the best in the country. Now that doesn't mean one should't think critically about any news programmes he watches, but generally it's great quality. They won a stack of Gemenis this year to prove it.

Canada needs the CBC. Hell, we only have one public station. In france, I can thing of at least 10 public networks that they have, so I wouldn't complain.
