I find it somewhat surprising. If I was a parent that had a kid in that school I would be right pissed.

Another reason religion needs to disappear. It hurts society far more than it helps.

And who says just the Muslims are living in the 12th century?

Yes, I can see why you make that statement. Muslims won't allow girls to get an education and the catholics won't allow them to recieve a vaccination at school. This is when the parents need to step in a and do the right thing for their children.

I was of course being sarcastic, but the Catholic Church is very old-fashioned, as evidenced by this silly decision. As they are putting their faith before their followers health, I feel totally justified in the comparison.

They are assuming that if they allow their students to have this, they will all run out and immediately begin having sex. The exact same thought process is behind their aversion to sex education. That's totally backward and definitely not even close to a 21st century outlook.

aversion to sex education? where the fuck do you get this bull shit from?
do you just pull it out of your ass?

"Two Alberta Catholic school boards will not be offering a controversial vaccine to Grade 5 girls this fall.

Calgary Catholic school board members voted Wednesday night not to make the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine available in schools.

Trustee Mary Martin said Calgary Bishop Fred Henry didn't want to appear to be condoning pre-marital sex.

"The bishop felt it was a moral issue."

St. Thomas Aquinas school board, south of Edmonton, has also refused the vaccine. At a special board meeting Sept. 19, trustees voted 6-3 against offering the vaccine at their schools, which have about 2,500 students.

Both boards will provide information about where the vaccine is available and let parents make the decision for their daughters.

"When a school board or anyone else allows something to go on in their schools, it's almost seen as an endorsement," said St. Thomas Aquinas board chair Sandra Bannard. "They just didn't want to go down that road, and thought it was more appropriate that this be a parental choice and families decide what's best to do for their daughters."

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THAT?

Yet you hold the entire religion to the actions of a few extremists in their version of it.

Nope. I'll admit when I said Muslim my immediate thoughts go to Afghanistan and the Taliban regime. So you are correct that not all Muslims keep women from getting an education. However I think we can all agree that women are not treated equally in Islam. A church not allowing a vaccination on it's property is not much of a comparison thought. The church is not preventing these girls from getting the vaccination somewhere else. Like I've said from the beginning though I disagree with that decision. Sex happens, and the only thing that prevents it is death. To ignore that is dangerous.
