As an "arab" I must say they are always coming with the most fucked up and disgusting and sometimes funny things in ths islamic world. Saoudi culture went from bedouin state to financial super power in less than 100 years without evolving. Slavery, unformal cast sytems, xenophobia, and of course institutionnal sexism are culturally accepted. This kind of marriage is business related, kind of alliance between families or clans. But I also believe (although I have no proof and I don't want to generalize to all saoudis) that it's related to some paedophilia tradition.

The problem for us is that they always try to export their islamic ideology and culture to other countries to shut down "competition" from local islamic traditions (usually more advanced humanly speaking). "Normal" people (number may vary depending on region or country...) don't give a shit about their fatwas (religious opinions that they consider as a de facto law) but muslims who take their religious education from TV (especially Iqraa Channel) are more likely to "accept" this kind of shit.

Why a secular Lebanese TV invites this caveman? because lebanon has been "sold" to Saudia with US benediction to "save it". These channels are trying to be "nice" to Saudi authorities and populations by showing them that their (ridiculous) opinion counts etc... lebanese don't give a shit about Saudi marriage traditions, as they are still considered...bedouins and stooopid by most other sham arabs (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine/Israel).

May I remind you that "western values" are not perfect or supreme? that they are the result of a lot of evolutions, some of them where bloody?

Also this "the way they have always been" is ridiculous. Everyone has changed, and still can, to the worst or to the best. the West is itself changing slowly to something else, and not necesserly to the best. As not-understandable as it may be for a "westerner", the fascist Saudi Arabia is a new product, it is the product of modern State tools (medias, controle) mixed with the faschisttic islam of ONE, only one clan (Al-wahab). It has not been "humanist" in the past but it's been just "ultraconservative". And it's already changing as many of young saudis are not even educated by saudis mothers but by philipinas, or syrian/lebanese mothers (with very different values, probably invisible to a "westerner").

And do you REALLY think that your beloved colonialism was based on the Rule of the Law? sure if the Law is restricted to the dominant population (whatever its justification is: skin color, religion).

I have some news for you: colonialism has left third-world countries with the worst elites one can dream of. The same who collaborated with the Empires, learned their tricks, became "smarter", profited from their advance, inherited the Power, and shaped their countries as POS. He says that marriage of a 1-year old child to a full grown adult is simply unheard of. Such "marriages" are almost certainly arranged marriages of children by parents and are considered rare even by their standards. The idea that some 40 year old pedophile is getting legitimate access to a child is just plain nonesense.

Of course if you don't agree with Saudi culture then don't live there.
