QBall QBall: Can we punta this junta in the cunta already and get on with this! Just send in a Seal team to eliminate the top five in the regime with a warning to the rest to fuck off or your next (it's Burma for Chrissakes!). I can't stand these fucked up military dictatorships that put their own interests ahead of their dying people. Start with Burma and move on to Dumb Dick Jong in North Korea. Time's up for these a-holes.
Don't go after the heads but after the roots of dictatorships.

xerxes xerxes: Dude, the money's not going to the Burmese government, most of the money being donated by Canadians is going to aid agencies like the Red Cross or MSF, et al.
And once anything lands in Burma, guess who gets the aid? I'll make you a bet, its not those poor innocent villagers who were hit by the disaster

If aid lands in Burma, villagers die anyway, just that the junta gets a bigger feast that night

a lot of them will die anyway, Benoit.
who will survive ? those who are loyal to the party, and the government..
for they will be in charge of the distribution.
and the storage.
and the transport.
and the weights and scales.
and the local official who has to sign off on all of it.
its a damn shame, these people need to change their government.

I'm just impressed this government made a decision to send the DART team. The last government waited for months to make the decision and in the case of Katrina, they team members finally went on their own.
.. now none of the team might get into Burma but at least they made a decision.

Sorry Xerxes, while relief agencies are very professional and know their stuff, inevitably they have to deal with the government of the affected country. When that government is as corrupt, paranoid and reclusive as Burma/Myanmar regime, the aid agencies really have no choice but to deal with them, even though they know a large percentage of monies and/or relief supplies will end up on black markets or in the bank accounts of the wrong people.

rr, your correct, at least some of the delay deploying the DART to Sri Lanka was waiting for the government to give the green light to deploy. That delay was exacerbated because we then had to wait for available AN124s to contract. With our 177s we move our stuff when we want it moved, not when a leasing company decides to grant us access to their toys.

It is Canada that is (sadly) accumulating more and more experiences.
