I have two reusable bags that I constantly use. It actually helps me get through the checkout faster, since I can just grab every item as the cashier rings it through and toss it in the bag myself. My body language makes it clear I'm not interested in chitchat, so nobody wastes my time with it.

Not to mention that I don't end up with more plastic bags than I know what to do with anymore...

Recycling that depends upon the end user is doomed to fail. It is bad design and the only solution is to make laws that force the manufactures to have a plan of how the product is to be recycled BEFORE it is allowed to be sold in the market.

I've been using reusable shopping bags for many years now. We keep them folded up and on the top shelf of the shoe/misc shelf by our door and never forget to take them with us when we go shopping and I always have an extra fold-up one in my purse and a couple of plastic bags as well in case we need them.

I used to use them all the time until the pandemic started and we couldn't bring reusable bags anymore (which I understand). Guess I'll have to get back in the habit...

I never stopped. Some grocery stores told me 'they' weren't doing the customer bag thing, I told them under my breath that 'they' could do whatever they wanted. I'm not touching their plague infested, environment destroying bags.

They just kept telling me that, I kept ignoring them. If they had insisted, I would have taken my bags and walked out.

That was never an issue here, never even heard about that until now.

That's why I think it was one of those 'politically correct' things that are really microagressions in disguise. It was from a national chain that has stores all across the country, and the policy was not all across the country.

There is no evidence that the bags I keep in my freezing truck carry any viruses. Ironically, that chain now does not have bags at the checkouts by default. You have to ask.

Like with straws they'll have to impose a strict date for compliance.
Just so store can throw out the bags they can't use anymore. Cuz we all know unused bags in the landfill don't pollute.
And ordering that as of such and such a date, stores can't order more bags, well that's just too fucking hard for a politician to figure out
