Capitalism can't continue unchecked, purely based on space and resource limitations. Look at Japan. You can't grow forever. You need to adapt. We need Capitalism-lite, and socialism.

We need Capitalism-lite, and socialism. Maybe we should just have socialism every time we need to starve and oppress a few million people to death and then afterwards we can get back to business. Or we can skip the Malthusian claptrap that's been wrong for 200 years and let the market find solutions to housing, food, and medical issues. Maybe we can also look to the market to start settling people on other planets inside the solar system.

You need both Socialism and Capitalism to make a good country, too much of one and not enough of the other and the whole system fucks up.
Venezuela= Too much socialism/Not enough Capitalism=Failed state Denmark= Good amount of socialism/good amount of Capitalism= Country that has a high standard of living.
We need the ying of Socialism and the yang of Capitalism to make countries work.

Socialism means the government controls the economy. Denmark has a successful capitalist state that allows them to finance a generous social welfare program with a high level of freedom for business. That's a pretty light version of socialism. Most of the time when serious socialism is implemented it ends up looking like Venezuela. Really, one of the most consistent signs of a true socialist state is the dearth of consumer goods and necessities. See, only when a sheet of toilet paper is worth more than your currency, only THEN have you achieved true socialism.

There isn't a capitalist country in the world, the USA included, that doesn't control the economy through central banks, regulations, environmental and labour laws, trade pacts etc. The only difference with "socialism" is they skim some of the enormous profits automation and efficiency have given us and use it to keep society humming.

Like I wrote, some people have trouble telling the difference between Socialism and Communism. And it's a big difference.

There are several examples of what unfettered capitalism does to a country, including the USA prior to the labour movement, and Chile. You get huge class divides. Once someone is as rich as a Rockefeller or Carnegie or Vanderbilt, the system collapses. No one can compete, not even "rich" people. And then the elites become your leaders, and then your King/Dictator. Unfettered socialism is the same because it removes incentives. We must bring balance to the force young Skywalker. Capitalism is great at creating wealth, innovation, and incentives. "Stealing" some of that wealth from the top 1% that got wealthy because of hard work, publicly paid for infrastructure/educated workers/security, keeps the system going. And frankly no one needs billions of dollars.

Prof_Chomsky Prof_Chomsky: And frankly no one needs billions of dollars. In socialism no one needs hundreds of dollars if some shitstain commissariat decides to steal everything. Stop worrying about what other people have or what they earn and start worrying about yourself. If you can't stand that someone else has a nice house then go do something to make sure you have one too.

Once all the money is nicely hoarded by a few ultra rich, you WILL become at best a monarchy, at worst a dictatorship. I think we should ship all of you "free market rules all" people to one place and let your grand experiment play out the way it has, and always will, inevitably play out.
