I think we are probably looking at something revolutionary happening in the US. Trump is the revolutionary right candidate, and Sanders was the revolutionary left candidate. Different goals, to be sure, but both sides agreed that the status quo is unacceptable.

In a way I think the whole of U.S. Owes him something, win or lose he has been the biggest "holy shit this might actually happen." moment in my lifetime.

In my view it is valuable on a couple of levels. It shows how completely out of touch the pundits and politicians are with the average Joe. This has a couple of benefits the most notable being the potential to motivate politicians to start paying attention, and to potentially have them try to earn their paychecks.

It also opens the door to future non-politicos to throw their hats in the ring when they see the opportunity.

A downside could come if both parties try to prevent anything like this from happening in the future but any attempt at that is extremely dangerous and the establishment risks further alienation if they attempt it.

Unhappily, I think the U.S. is primed for violence and IF there is any revolutionary change it will come with a significant body count.
