My first post mentioned cats because I believe the ballpark figure of dead birds at the hands of our house cats is roughly a fucking BILLION a year in the United States. Feigned outrage will get you nowhere.
And birds likely kill far more than that.

But when a project is required to meet strict standards for environmental protection so that when a few hundred birds dying in a tailing pond you get calls to shut down all oil extraction and place hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. It's only fair that all industry be subject to similar limits.

"Syncrude was fined $3 million after 1,600 birds landed on a tailings pond in 2008"

So if we are looking at 30,000 birds that's 56 million in fines each year in my books.

That all said, I support nuclear.
Well you got that going for you at least.

Birds kill more what? Birds? Maybe? That's fine.
Yeah birds are likely the top killer of birds. But that said where would we be without house cats taking the population down by a few billion?

I can't help by think we have a balance between birds and predators.

They are dying while we progress, which is borderline excusable since that's been our argument since we started stabbing animals with spears and shit. I've always wondered why the solar and wind movements were linked to saving animals when the point was to end pollution. Less poisoned animals is just the bonus.

I think it's just the propaganda used by people that can't be bothered to check their facts talking to people unwilling to check any facts.

Is this the final straw on solar? No way in hell. I can't put a nuclear reactor in my backyard.

You likely could, physically I mean. They are actually rather small. It's all the other stuff besides the reactor that takes up some room.

If you had smart meters with different rates you would likely save more money by buying batteries to run your power during peak demand and peak price than you would by putting up solar to lower your daytime power draw.

Charge up at night and run off the bats during the 5-9 dinner rush.

Although it's still more expensive than just buying grid power.

Oh, and yet another brilliant 'green' idea that's causing hideous harm to the environment in the name of environmentalism.

...don't you hunt? Eat poultry? Support oil?

Hideous harm... What they should be doing is covering it up and arresting anyone who takes pictures of the birds, as we're generally okay with things if we're lied to about it for a few years first.

My first post mentioned cats because I believe the ballpark figure of dead birds at the hands of our house cats is roughly a fucking BILLION a year in the United States. Feigned outrage will get you nowhere.

1. I don't hunt. I only kill things that deserve it.

2. Yes, I eat poultry. I also voted for chickens to be raised in humane conditions in California and I've long paid extra to buy free range eggs.

3. Yep, I support oil. I principally support oil pipelines as they are easier to contain when they fail.

4. You're right about the lies. Global warming (which is now called 'climate change' since the warming part failed) comes to mind.

5. I trap feral cats and take them to the animal control to be put down humanely. I utterly loathe the bizarre cat ladies who feed colonies of ferals and who don't connect their psychotic behavior with the near-total absence of song birds in Sacramento.

6. I'd support nuclear if the f*cking Democrats would allow the Yucca Mountain waste facility to finally operate.
