It's private property and they're kind enough to allow other kids to use the playground after hours.

There's a Montessori school at my bus stop that has an exceptional playground surrounded by a 3 meter fence and it's locked up and closed after hours. Probably because they're afraid of the liability of letting the public use the facility.

Private property...'nuff said. Move on and have a tantrum elsewhere.

An unfortunate sign of the times, I'm thinking we are going to see much more of this kind of action in the future, nobody being able to pay, or willing to pay the insurance costs to keep the playgrounds open for everyone at all hours. I read somewhere the parks in New Westminster are closed between sunset and sunrise and it is therefore illegal to be in any city park between those hours.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but this absolutely about legal liability if someone gets hurt. It's sucks, but so does life.

And what a bs argument, "we raised money to build the playground". We all did lady, when we pay our taxes.

No, the PAC raised money for that playground, it wasn't paid for by taxes. The background here is that there was a lot of fuss when that school was closed, ie resentment by the locals. And, apparently they were assured by the school board that they would still be allowed to use the playground when the property was leased to the private school. Maybe the school board could work out a compromise where they pay a bit towards insurance so that non-school kids could use it. It's got to burn you to raise all that money only to be denied the playground.

Darn if only we had some way to shape the laws or legal standards we live under.

I'm going to petition my local Count so he can talk to the Queen and maybe change this.

I'd say something like Fucking Lawyers, but I accept that I have some obligation for letting them get away with BS. Fucking judges?
