WOuldn't it be simpler to just use a piece of paper with the names of the candidates on it and a pen?

Ever have a count of votes for something over 25,000 come up with the same number 3 times in a row?

You think counting would be easy, but somehow people fuck it up.

The problem is that the USA refuses to accept anything other than a corporate package deal when it comes to voting. So they have a long history of terrible voting methods being sold at huge cost to them.

Fact is we have had the tech and know how for years to make electronic voting safe, easy and tamper proof.

Bottom line, if I can pay my taxes online, I should be able to vote online.


Counting by hand is labour intensive and prone to minor error, but it seems like all their mechanical counting is no better and results in controversy all the time. Not often you hear much about the counts up here. Even if the count is off by a bit there's generally enough space between the winner and the others that a few dozen votes one way or the other makes no difference. And with automatic recounts when the results are close it seems even less likely to cause real problems.
