OH, sure. Actually I'm not crazy about the kids throwing rocks as you drive thru even in the day time. Or the guy with the rifle who stopped us and tried to extract a toll. (Mt Curry). Or the native guy who I gave a ride to. As we approached the res, he said "when you stop I'm going to get my friends to beat you up." I said thanks for the warning, burned it thru the reserve and let him off 5 miles down the road. He was a bit confused about what just happened. Or the time we had to back up or native buddy (a Cree) because he was sitting in the pub with the white man. Once it became clear to them that they would be fighting more than one guy, they calmed down real fast.

But just saying, culture of silence isn't reserved for reserves. (good one, eh?)

Yes, got a few of those tales myself. I was in one place on business, and had to sleep in the jail cell. Only safe place in town, the cop told me. Too bad this guy never got the memo.

Hopefully, someone steps up.

Totally off-track and nothing to do with the subject!
There's evil shit happening here and people are intimidated. Several unsolved killings, rumours flying and no results in sight.
How's about offering a solution that would work instead?

Exactly. A solution that would work is a very good objective. We know what isn't effective at fighting gangs already. There is plenty of evidence that ending prohibition will substantially reduce profits for gangs. That is the only solution that work, that anybody is proposing anywhere.

I'll ask again, how does ending marijauna laws help COCAINE addicts?

Or is this just a start to your hopes of it escalating to include cocaine and heroin being legal.

The guy was well known around here. The rumoured suspects are well known, the house it happened in was well known.
It isn't an isolated reserve, one side of the road is the Municipality, the other the reserve. The gas station is on the rez and all the cop vehicles are filling up there, driving through the reserve all day to get to the other areas here.
Don't waste your breath with this 'dangerous for whitey to be on the rez at night' bullshit, the natives there are part of our town, many of them our friends and co-workers and their kids are our kid's classmates.
It boils down to what Tom Clancy refers to as HUMINT. When trainee cops rotate in and out, there's no time for them to become part of the community. Hell we keep asking them to walk the damn streets and get to know people.
When 99% are white and didn't grow up here, they're not gonna ever have sources among the natives. And they probably have like ONE native recruit in the whole country to bring in undercover.
The Band Office has pretty limited resources to remove troublemakers, they aren't the police. They've gone as far as boot people out and even call the fire dept. and have them burn down old houses being used as crack-shacks for volunteer training. We ALL want this stuff to be resolved.
Here's a new link from today.
