westmanguy westmanguy: Can you imagine how much Victoria and the Island would explode population-wise if there was a fixed link?
The actual distance from the Mainland to the Island is not far, you'd have a new suburbia for Vancouver workers. which is exactly the reason for not doing it, under any circumstances...

Considering the Island is already at the brink of 1 million people without a land link... I like the idea of the ferry service, if nothing else it is a novelty. But because it is such a necessity, it shouldn't be a privatized group.

Lets just all get dual citizenships and turn Bellingham-Blaine into a 1M+ sleeping suburb of Vancouver. I'd be down for that.

There are serious suggestions that Canada should double or triple immigration to reach 100 million as soon as possible. I have no problem with that idea, if all those newcomers were to go to our empty regions. But the bulk of them will flood to Metro Vancouver and Toronto, turning them into LA and NYC north.

Those immigrants will also quickly erase what it means to be 'Canadian' and they'll be happy to bring you the problems that we currently enjoy in our immigrant ghettos across the country.

Don't give them ideas. They'll get rid of the ferries and make a bridge with 12 bike lanes and a $1000 toll for cars & trucks.

I always tell myself that I'd like to live near the ocean someday. Then I listen to people who actually do and I realize quickly that it isn't worth the bother or the cost.

Liberals seem to gravitate to the coasts as the softer life attracts them. It's also harder to be a liberal living in a fantasyland of friendly animals, gun control, and clean energy if you live someplace like Churchill.

No room for us radical moderates anywhere? Might as well move to the Moon and put up a big sign that says "Normals Only - All Others GTFO!".

Gunnair Gunnair: No bridge - not at all interested in allowing Toronto west any closer. In fact, we need to widen the Salish Sea. Funny how you direct that at me, when it's Martin and you who made the comments who made the comments. Why do you think Vancouver is Toronto west - the high birth rate of our native born Canadians? If saying we're full and immigrants should move to other parts of Canada is racist, then you're a hypocritical racist. Must be nice, sitting in white-bread Victoria, patting yourself on the back for your tolerance, but "keep those people over there." Hypocrite.

And my guess is you agree with him. If saying we're full and immigrants should move to other parts of Canada is racist, then you're a hypocritical racist.
